Personal Information
- Interests in Water
I have always been attracted to water. It is such a natural thing to feel at peace near water. When I joined the Peace Corps and had my first interview with my APCD he asked if I had any preferences for my site, I said "I don't care as long as I am close to a body of water to go swimming." Of course, my wish was not granted as you are not supposed to go swimming in the fresh water streams in Senegal. Living in my village, I quickly realized the true importance of water. Women spend hours pulling water to drink, to bathe, to cook, and to wash clothes for her whole family. So when the dry season approached and it was harder to pull water from the well and it came out brown with dead bugs and peanut shells in it, I was moved to do something. Clean water should not be a seasonal thing, that was when I decided something needed to be done.
